Project summary
WP Credits is a WordPress program that lets university students contribute to the WordPress open source project as part of their academic training. The idea is to learn by working on a real project alongside a global community of contributors, and to document that process.
Contribution area: Polyglots
I chose the Polyglots team, which translates WordPress into other languages. Thanks to this work, millions of people can use WordPress, its themes and its plugins in their own language.
My contribution will be translating strings into Spanish on translate.wordpress.org, following the style guide and glossary of the Spanish translation team. The translations I submit remain suggestions until a translation editor reviews and approves them.
Expected scope
- Join the Polyglots team communication channels.
- Learn the Polyglots handbook, the style guide and the Spanish glossary.
- Translate untranslated strings from plugins, themes or WordPress core.
- Read feedback from editors and fix the translations that need it.
- Document my progress on this site’s blog throughout the term.
By the end, I expect to have made approved contributions to the project and to better understand how a large-scale open source community works.
